Getting to Langkawi

Located thirty kilometres off the west coast of Malaysia, Langkawi is well connected with the Malaysian mainland and neighbouring countries through air and waterways. There are no railway or road bridges connecting this island to the mainland. Therefore, even if you prefer to travel on solid ground, travel by air or water in the last leg of your journey is necessary.

Travel by air:

Flying into the Langkawi international airport (IATA airport code: LGK) at Padang Matsirat, is the most convenient way to get into the island. Located about twenty minutes drive from Pantai Cenang, on the south western part of Langkawi, the airport has frequent domestic flights from Kuala Lumpur and Penang along with international flights from Singapore and Thailand. Budget friendly airlines such as Malaysian Airlines, TUI Airways, Scoot, Air Asia, Malindo Air and China Southern, offer services to and from the Langkawi International airport.

Travel by water:

The island is well connected with the Swettenham Pier Penang on the west coast of Malaysia. Ferries are also available from the nearby port towns of Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis. Round trip ferry rides are available every day from these ports to the Kuah Jetty on the Eagle Square in Langkawi. Tickets can be booked online, and a printed version of the ticket is enough to get on board. Ports at Satun and Ko Lipe in Thailand also have direct ferry to mainland Langkawi. Sailors who arrive in their own boat can enter Langkawi through the Kuah jetty or the Telaga Harbour where customs and immigration facility is available.
